Night of the Gold Painted Ken Doll ~ The Oscars

Image

If you weren’t parked in front of your TV last night, you missed out! February 24 was the amazing 85th annual celebration of the Academy Awards. This is the organization behind the movie industry’s most prestigious honor, the Oscar. Throughout the evening, awards are given out, honoring the highest achievements in every category of filmmaking. While The Oscars is one of the most globally anticipated events today, it was not that way on May 16, 1929 when it all began. In fact, the first ceremony was hosted in a banquet room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. There were 270 people and the ticket price was only $5! Did I mention, there wasn’t any media coverage?! Oh how times have changed! It is amazing to see what has transpired in cinematic achievement and it’s recognition over the course of the century.

As I was sitting on my couch, there were moments when I wondered whether I was watching the Tony Awards or The Oscars. The entire night was filled with breathtaking musical numbers and artist performances from start to finish, beginning and ending with Seth Macfarlane. The tribute to Chicago, Dream Girls, and Les Misérables left me covered in goosebumps all over. And then there were the winners themselves. WOW-what a great year of movie making and writing!

Some of the most coveted awards went to:

Argo ~ Best Picture

Daniel Day Lewis ~ Best Actor in a Leading Role                                                                   Lincoln

Jennifer Lawrence ~ Best Actress in a Leading Role                                                             Silver Linings Playbook

Christoph Waltz ~ Best Supporting Actor                                                                                 Django Unchained

Anne Hathaway ~ Best Supporting Actress                                                                                  Les Misérables

Ang Lee ~ Directing                                                                                                                 Life of Pi

Brave ~ Best Animated Feature Film                                                                                       Mark Andrews & Brenda ChapmanImage

And as for the Red Carpet, here’s my pick on Best & Worst Dressed

BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BEST BESTImage

Two things that are hard to wear: Peplum and White. Charlize Theron nailed both in this beautiful Christian Dior gown.

Image

Jennifer Hudson had a beautiful performance and a beautiful blue Roberto Cavalli Dress.

Image

If there is anyone who can pull off old Hollywood glam, a body with curves, and classic blonde beauty, it is Reese Witherspoon. This Louis Vuittin dress is magnificent.

Image

Does she ever not make the best dressed list? Jennifer Aniston looks stunning in red.

oscars-jennifer-lawrence

I fell in love with Jennifer Lawrence’s red carpet reveal long before she fell up the stairs on the way to receive her Oscar for Best Actress.

Image

Sandra Bullock = forever elegant

Image

Gorgeous couple rocking more than an Oscar award for Best Picture. Jennifer Garner’s Gucci dress stood out on the red carpet because of her brave choice in color. While everyone mostly went with nude, metallic, and black, she pulled off the purple.

WORST WORST WORST WORST WORST WORST WORST WORST

Image

Anne Hathaway definitely deserved to win best supporting actress but she made a POINT to miss the best dressed award! Her Prada gown is a bridesmaid dress gone wrong. Image

As if her Twilight acting & her leg brace doesn’t make Kristen Stewart awkward enough..

Image

Her hair and her dress speak for themselves. It’s like Helena Bonham Carter is wearing a costume from one of her crazy films.

Image

Although I love Melissa McCarty, I think her stylist could have found something a little more flattering to wear. Wrong color. Wrong fit. Cheap looking.

Image

Kristin Chenoweth’s voice is lovely. Her dress is not.

Image

Kelly Osbourne has no right to be judging anyone else’s fashion. This is a fashion fail. This dress might work at a prom for vampires.

Image

Zoe Saldana almost got this right. The bottom is beautiful. The top is TOO busy.

Image

Brandi Glanville is just asking for a dress malfunction. Just cuz you have it, don’t mean you gotta flaunt it. Yuck.

I would love to hear your best and worst dressed picks! And any thoughts on the Oscars this year and it’s winners :)

We Can’t Run But We Can Color With the Best of Them!

Yep, I did it. I signed myself up for something I loathe. I have committed to something that may or may not kill me. And if I don’t make it, well, it’s been a good “run.” Pun intended. Yes, RUNNING. I am doing my first 5K and I can’t wait!! On April 6, Everett and I will be running with thousands of other people in Atlanta, Georgia for The Color Run. This 5K in particular is a crazy, unique experience that focuses less on individual speed but more on having fun with family and friends. Each kilometer of the event is associated with a color: yellow, orange, pink, and blue. Once each runner crosses the color zone marker, the Color Run staff and volunteers blitz the runners with chalk colored paint! Once your sneaker reaches the finish line, you are colored completely from head to pinky toe.

While being a moving canvas sounds totally awesome to me, there is a much bigger reason why I have chosen and convinced my sweet hubby to join me on this adventure. I want it to be about completing a goal. I have recently set myself on the road to fitness and this race is a great motivator for me. While shedding pounds and toning muscle is hard work and very gratifying, so is tackling this mental challenge.

That is what running is to me. Mental. A lot of it is anyway. The feeling of collapsing lungs and and acid burning legs is not exactly an easy battle but those things can be conditioned with training, diet, and repetition. My mind, however, makes me believe I can’t do it. It makes me believe if I take one more step, my life will come to an end. Ok, so maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration but still, running is not an enjoyable past time for me. I believe that if I win mentally, hopefully my body will follow….right across the 3 mile marker.

Image

As far as “training” goes, I’m not sure I can say I have a step by step plan. Sure, I have read several “workout” plans and I have taken a little from each of them. Overall, I’m just a girl working hard on eating healthy, working hard in the gym, building my stamina with strength and cardio, and enjoying the process more and more every day. My husband, Everett is a huge encouragment. Working out has been a challenge for me since high school because I’ve always felt so alone or embarrassed in the process. It is especially harder now that I have carried a child inside of my body for 9 months. Everything in my body screams, “Yo, you had a baby, remember?!” Everett doesn’t see it that way though. He is nothing but supportive which is all the fuel I need. I’m doing this for him. I’m doing it for Aria. And mostly, I’m doing it for me. I want to feel great about myself, my health, and my appearance so I can be the best version of me for the people I love.

Image

The Color Run we’re doing has chosen Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as their charity. I am very happy about this because having been a local in Atlanta for a few years, I became familiar with the wonderful work and patient care that this hospital offers. I am proud to be running for something that will benefit the lives and health of children. There is not a greater cause in my mind.

Image

Everett and I will update you as time and training goes on. We have already served our time on the treadmill today and we will continue to push harder every week. We would love to hear about any 5K experiences that you have had! Any breathing, pacing, and posture techniques would also be appreciated! If anyone is interested in running with us in Atlanta, please let us know and we can give you more information about signing up. We are registered as a team (4+ members). But you have to ask yourself one question. Can you handle the awesomeness?!

The answer is YES! YES YOU CAN!

Happy Running… Bottles up!!

Rose are Red, Violets are Blue, My 1st blog is about Valentine’s with my Boo

Here it is! My first official blog post as Mrs. Kathryn Elizabeth Wright! I am excited about my topic today because it has pretty much been the ongoing highlight of my life for the past year and a half. ~L’amour~ Yes, love. I want to to take you back a couple days to the famous holiday known as Valentine’s Day. It is a day that holds several meanings to a lot of different people. For children, it is about handing out the coolest Valentine to your friends at school and tallying up all the chocolate and candy hearts received. For the person “without somebody,” it is generally viewed as Singles Awareness Day- a time to A. hide in your bedroom and look at all the mushy mess on facebook’s News Feed while curled up with a box of self bought chocolate or B. Go out with your friends and try to become “less single.” For men, I would imagine it is a stressful time. There is pressure, enforced by the world and women alike, that they must make the most grand romantic gesture on this day than any other day of the year. This might look like an argument with a hostess over a last minute reservation at the most charming restaurant in town or getting an express delivery from a flower shop when you are down to a three hour notification. With all the Hallmark hubbub and the encouraged inflation of women’s waistlines, we can easily lose track about what this day is supposed to be about. Don’t get me wrong. There is nothing bad about chocolates, roses, and candlelight. In fact, I used all three last Thursday. But as wonderful as gifts are, the most important thing to relay is how dearly you love and cherish your significant other and your children. This was my first Valentine’s Day as a wife. It gave the day a whole new meaning. I love Everett every minute of every hour of every day. He is my husband and the father of our beautiful daughter. There are not enough ways I can describe to you how and why I love this man. He is not perfect but he is perfect for me. So this is how I relayed that message to him…..

I spent a few days putting together a scavenger hunt. A scavenger hunt to find me!! I know, what a great prize:) Each clue led him to a significant spot in our relationship. I wanted to remind him of how precious these memories are to me and why. Once he began his adventure, he found champagne, truffles, balloons, men’s magazines and homemade cookies awaiting his arrival. Each yummy gift had a card attached, sealed with a poem inside. This is what he found.

Welcome Home, Everett, my Dear!

I’m so excited that you are here.

Your day of work is finally done.

So our night of romance has just begun.

Please do what I say, in the order they’re in

Don’t jump ahead or you’ll be in a spin.

     Bathe and get dressed!

     You’ll want to look fresh

I wouldn’t take you anywhere that wasn’t the best.

Once you’ve put on your slacks and buttoned your shirt

Drink the Redbull I left you so you can make it to dessert.

Answer: Clue was on the door into our bedroom

Image

Congratulations! You found the first one!

Now I can tell you more about this evening’s fun.

There are a number of clues that are all around

They will help you on your mission until I am found.

Each new spot has a special place in my heart,

like this little room where our day gets it’s start.

We brush and we flush, we spy and we chat

It’s where I get attacked daily by, Bubbles, our cat.

It’s time to go on, so I hope you are ready

You’re my Michael and I’m your Sarah Tancredi.

Clue number two can be found

in the warm spot where your knee hit the ground.

Answer: Clue was on the bathroom counter

I will never forget that 13th of May

Why, it was my very first Mother’s Day!

Little did I know what you had planned

For God had our story written in the palm of His hand.

With words so sweet and emotions so high

You reached for my hand and nearly started to cry.

You told me you wanted me forever in your life

My answer, “YES!” would soon make me your wife.

Your next clue can be found on something large that is red

We’ve spent many date nights staying up late,

and waking up feeling half alive, half dead.

Hours of fun, suspense, laughter and fear…

Don’t push anyone out of the way!

Wait until the coast is clear.

Answer: Clue was next to the fireplace where we got engaged

Image

Great job, baby!

You’ve found the 3rd clue.

And since you’re standing here,

you know what to do!

Pick out a great movie and we’ll watch it tonight

I hope they have Taken 2 because you know I love a good fight!

We’ve spent far too much money at this very machine

but I promise I’ll return it before Aria turns thirteen.

You better go soon…the sun is almost down

Now it’s time you make a trip somewhere else in town.

You are very close by so do not fret…

This holiday is their busiest day of the year I bet.

I love when you treat me to this special place.

Their cannolis make me wish my tummy had more space!

Answer: Clue was on top of Redbox machine at Ingles

Image

I hope everyone greeted you with smiles on their faces.

Michael Lees has always been one of my favorite Hiawassee places!

The food and service is always grand

especially when we have a glass of Riesling in our hand.

Wave goodbye and hop in your car.

This time, I’m going to take you a bit far.

Your next clue will be under the sky so blue

Where I shared my favorite memory with you.

Every eye was on us and you were my dream come true.

It was the moment our journey of marriage began with “I Do.”

Don’t worry it may be a bit dark, but where there is true love

you will always find a spark.

Answer: Clue was at our favorite restaurant in Hiawassee, Michael Lees.

Brasstown is the place where my world changed forever.

We vowed to God and others that our union would never sever.

I’ll never forget when we were standing here,

you called me “perfection.”

The way you looked at me in that moment was a glimpse of the Son’s reflection.

I love you, Everett Anthony Wright

And I promise to be

the wife, the mother, and the friend that God has called me to be.

I guess I should ask and not presume,

but can I go on a date on this special night with you?

I am your wife, and honored I am,

but a Valentine this evening would be my best idea of a plan.

If your answer is yes, and I sure hope it is,

then head to the room where our dinner begins.

It is neither Maple, Cedar, or even Pine

but I can tell you that it is the greatest of trees for a child to climb.

I hope you wore your watch and a cape to help you fly

It’s time you leave because our reservation is at 7:45!

Answer: The clue was under the arbor on the Waterfall Lawn at Brasstown Valley Resort

Image

Answer: The Oaks Restaurant at The Ridges Resort

…and guess what. HE FOUND ME!!!

Every day should be like Valentine’s Day. February 14th is just a glorified holiday that should be an example to the other 364 days of the year. Stuffed animals and hershey kisses are great but so is making a point to love hard every day and be loved hard in return.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As  I have loved you, so you must love one another.” – John 13:34

….and I can’t forget to mention mine and Everett’s mini Valentine. Our sweetest girl, Aria.

First Days Evening Challenge

I like to workout in the evenings.(rephrase…when I workout) Its a mental thing for me. About an hour or two after dinner. Plus it helps me sleep. My goal for tonight will be a Push-Up pyramid. 1, then 2, then 3 and so on up to 20 and back down. This totals 400 if my maths right. the result should be burning, aching, wobbly triceps and tight inflamed possibly torn shoulders and chest (after all enlarging muscles does require tearing). If you attempt a Push-Up pyramid you must finish at all costs. For guys this means most likely you will end up in the “Girls” position on your knees. I’ve never gotten further than 17 on the way down the pyramid before willingly being as feminine as possible. It is absolutely death even to finish on your knees. I’ve always been a push up fan. They have always worked and you can hit all parts of your chest by merely switching to an inclined position much like and inclined bench press. Of course the best results have come for me when I was throwing around weights in the gym like I was the Hulk but do to budget cuts personally and not wanting to hurt myself by going to fast to soon Ive decided to go all natural  with personal weight resistant exercises. Such as Push-Ups, Sit ups, every type of Crunch, Burpees and more. We’ll see in a hundred days how they’ve worked out for me. And with the photos you can give me your opinion on the results. I haven’t been this excited about “starting back” ever before because I know what I’m working towards. Yes. My wedding! I will say something about it every post so get used to it! its the best thing ever to happen to me. I LOVE YOU KATHRYN ELIZABETH COPPAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!

100 Days to Get Ripped…(or at least try :/)

My Wedding is in a hundred days!!!! so needless to say it is a must that I look my best for my beautiful fiancé Kathryn. And Im going to do it without a gym membership. Old school people. Calisthenics. Cardio. And Dumbell Routines. I’m 6’2” and right at 200 lbs. and on seeing me you wouldn’t necessarily think I needed to hit the gym but this is my wedding people!!! Just a personal goal to look as best as I can. I am not concerned with losing weight or gaining any my window is 190-205. But its all about appearances this time. I will be posting pictures. never have i ever intentionally stood in a bathroom and taken a picture of my body to blast online but for this I will cave. If you don’t see more than one picture on this journey its because I’m failing miserably. Main focus of course will be chest and stomach. I am more than open to suggestions of stay at home exercises to really rip up the abdomen. Thank you and happy working out!!!

Same Blog New Location

Took my sister-in-law Lindsays advice and started over on WordPress. Definitely more user friendly. Anyways. Peter Pan is over and was a hit! Really may have been the smoothest show yet. Everyone did a wonderful job and stayed on track. Now its over and things are a little more calm here at the theater but we still have a busy summer ahead. I have jumped into doing whatever I can to help Kathryn with our big day. We assembled invitations Monday. Super. Fun. they are pretty. I picked up 300 stamps yesterday only to realize (with a gentle nudge) that you cant send invitations with normal American flag adorned stamps. Will correct that today. Had a little blip yesterday with my passport application. Macon county does not accept applications for passports so I had to go to Jackson County to turn it in. Only to find out that you cant just give them a copy of your birth certificate. It must be a Certified copy so i was sent back to Macon County courthouse to get that. Upon arriving there I was told that since Im adopted I must go through Raleigh to get a copy. So I called them and got one ordered so it should be here in 10 to 12 days. It was 90 freakin dollars though. woo…. hoo:( O well. Its a must have. Monday Five of my groomsmen and I are going to get them fitted for their Tuxedos. Should be fun. Theres so much to do!!!!! Kathryns been a champ. very proud of her. Im definitely not the organized type so its a great thing she is. Anyways gotta run get some work done and ill be back with another post much more regularly than I have been since Peter Pan is over. Have a blessed day!
